Hello All,
We once had a show in Omaha Nebraska where a woman proclaimed to us that she had “new breasts, a new tattoo, and a new attitude”. This post is our proclamation of the same sentiment. We have a new record that we are releasing on November 9th. It is self-titled and it has two sides. The first side is 10 instrumental tracks that span from light and fun to dark and brooding. The second side of the release is all B-sides and extras that we have had in the hopper for quite some time. Some are from The Enjoying Fire days, some from the Lunar Co days, and there are a few new ones too. We have released two of the songs for your listening pleasure. Click on the image to here the tunes.

We will be supporting the album with three shows, all with our friends The Life and Times.

We will also be shooting a video for one of the songs “Better Off” in the weeks to come. We will let you know if we need to borrow your helicopter for the sweeping shots of John on a mountaintop with no shirt. In the meantime, check out our Youtube Page
Right now it is a bit sparse, but please take time to enjoy a video for “Sway” from our last album Lunar Co. In the “favorites” tab you will be able to find all sorts of great videos featuring the three of us performing our music at various rock and/or roll venues.
If you have made it this far into the post, you are a patient and thoughtful reader who has proven that you will go to great lengths to learn about our little band. We love you. Wanna hear us on the local radio? Request our song on the Current! They have the album, but it is in all of their cars. Call them and tell them that they need to take that disc out of their CD players and shoot it up to the radio satellites so that everyone gets a chance to hear these rock gems! We hope to see you at these shows. Tell your friends!

Hello All,
It really has been a long long time since last we communicated. I assure you, we are still alive and kicking. While we have been out of the public eye (sorry TMZ), we have been keeping very busy. I write now because we have news to share!
First, we are opening for Shiner in Chicago on Sunday August 26th. You can purchase tickets here: BUY TICKETS!!
This will be an amazing show and we are more than excited to play with one of our favorite bands as they re-release “The Egg” on vinyl. This is a day the the rock gods have made. Let us rejoice and be glad.
Secondly, we are inches away from being done with our double LP. It is self titled and we are finalizing the art work. One CD is entirely instrumental and the other disc is B-sides and unreleased songs from our catalog. Once the artwork is done, it will go to press and we will have something to sell to you all. The album will be released digitally and on CD. We don’t have a release date as of right now, but if you come to that Chicago show, you will be able to purchase it. Everyone else will have to wait. Get excited.
Lastly, we have started another band called They Dead. It is a long story, but I will try to make it short since I know you have a lot of internet cat videos to watch.
Last year Bryan Knisley and Ian Prince got together to jam on some ideas. Once these ideas were flushed out by the two of them, they recorded the songs for an album. These recordings were then given to both Adam and myself, we started practicing, and They Dead has become something that will be unleashed to the world on August 2nd at Hells Kitchen.
They Dead is in no way a replacement for Story of the Sea. Our main focus artistically will remain in Story of the Sea. We just wanted to try something different and They Dead is very different. I started a FaceBook Page, so you can like it here.
As mentioned above, They Dead has its first show at Hell’s Kitchen on Thursday August 2nd. We’re first! Here are the details.
Sativa Flats
Kestrels (Halifax)
Delta Lyrae
They Dead
10pm ID $5
We hope to see you there!

Hola! Just a quick note. We have three upcoming local shows that are all great for one reason or another.
The first of them is this Saturday the 28th at the Turf w/ Communist Daughter. This is great because they are great.
The second one is the following Saturday the 4th at Cause. This is great, and a lil sad, because it is a send off show for The Icy Shores. Last chance to see this awesome three piece. Good reason to come out!
The third is Friday Feb 17th at the 331. This is great because it is with Unguided who are celebrating the release of their new record that night. Party.
We play 2nd to last all of these nights. So come early, stay late, you know the bit.
What else? Well our instrumental record is done! We are just finishing up the other non-instrumental album and then our double record will be up for adoption. Anyone who would like to help us put this thing out is encouraged to get in touch. This means you Merge!
Love you,
Ian

Congrats to the other two thirds of this band for making major life events happen! Adam has wed, John has fathered. Pretty huge moments.
Musically speaking the final lose ends are nearly tied on this yet untitled new work of ours. All I can say is itʼs a whole lot of music. Two albums for your listening pleasure. A lot of hands helped make it what it is, weʼre totally proud and Iʼll go in to that further when thereʼs more time. For now any suggestions for a name are welcomed since the one I came up with has been poo pooed. One suggestion has been Mumford and Sons and I have to say I like it. Thereʼs just something about it. IDK.
We have super exciting show news for yous. We are doing some nice in town shows through the end of the calender year. Weʼve got not one but TWO Turf Club shows. And thatʼs not all! Hello Brooklyn and hello D.C.! We get to play these two lovely cities with some of our heros. Both shows are with the band Bells who are incredibly incredible and the D.C. show is also with J. Robbins, say no more. Unbelievable…really. No-one has to show up to these shows for me to be totally psyched about them, but you are welcome and encouraged to attend if itʼs within your means. Itʼs gonna be neat!
November 11 – Red Palace, D.C. w/ Bells and J. Robbins
November 12 – Dead Herring, Brooklyn w/ Bells, Diehard and Chumps
November 18 – Turf Club, St Paul w/ The Tisdales
December 16 – Turf Club, St Paul w/ Valet and Magic Castles
All told,
Ian

First let me say thanks to Mankato and Duluth peoples. Thanks Mankato and Duluth people. The shows last weekend weʼre some of the best weʼve had in each respective city. They were also our first shows back as a trio which we are quite stoked about. Return to form if you will. Adam got a new Les Paul, I got a new snare drum and John got new shoes thus improving our live sound. And sight.
Mucho progresso has been made on our instrumental album. It is so close! It shall be a treat to thine ears start to finish, that is if you like music without words. Actually there will be some words, just not any that are sung. There is also a little something else up our collective sleeve as far as the release goes but more on this at a later date. Letʼs get on to more urgent matters.
Shows! Well, show rather. We have one on the books and it is with none other than Buffalo Tom! Man did we ever, and still do, love that band. Total summer time soundtracks to many a summer, their albums. I believe itʼs just us and them this coming Wednesday, April 13th at the Varsity Theater in Dinky Town. Thanks to First-Avenue for having us on the bill.
If youʼre reading this, which I know that you are, know that we love you.

Hello Everyone,
It is with regret that I announce that Andy Mark will no longer be playing with Story of the Sea. Let me start by saying that Andy is a great person and a phenomenal musician. He will be missed by all of us as well as the fan/s. Andy was in a place where he needed to make some really tough life decisions and was unable to pass up an opportunity that arose for him. Unfortunately, those choices put him in direct conflict with our goals. It was really a case of bad circumstances combined with bad timing. He was a big fan of SOTS that turned into a crucial part of our live show. We wish him well in both his musical career as well as his personal life.
So it is back to the three piece for us. We will work hard to fill the gap left by Andy’s departure and you will be able to see the fruits of that labor in April at the following shows.
April 1st: Mankato Minnesota, The What’s Up for the POST HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA IV
http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=186728418027518
April 2nd: Duluth Minnesota, Luce, with Atlas Mtns and Jenny Dalton.
Also, we hope to have our instrumental album done for a release show by this summer. It is in the mixing stage and we are excited!
And one other thing….I am going to be a Dad in August with my beautiful wife Jessica, for those who did not know. I am not going to lie, there was band pressure to have a child so that Oscar Prince had someone to be in a band with in the year 2026
I hope to see you all at these upcoming out of town shows.

The last time we were in Omaha we ended the night talking to a lady who had recently had her breast enhanced and a new tattoo. She told us “I have new tits, a new tattoo, and a new attitude”. It has stuck with us to this day and despite my pleadings, the other guys won’t allow it to be the name of our next album.
Speaking of new albums, we are almost done recording our full length instrumental record. We are in the process of adding some final touches and then it is off to mixing. If all goes as planned we will release it and perform it by early summer.
We also have new T-Shirts. They are long sleeved, yellow, with blue writing on them. Here is a picture of Adam’s fiance wearing one proudly:

How sharp!
They are $15 and we only made 30 of them (for now), so get em while the gettin’ is good.
We also have a show in two weeks(Feb 11th, 10PM). It is at the 331 Club with our pal Jenny Dalton. Jenny Dalton sang on the Lunar Co. track “Sway”. If we play our cards right, maybe she will sing it with us at the show! I asked my friend Erik Farseth to throw something together for a poster, and boy did he! Check it!

Feb 11th!
Hope to see you at the show!

Hello All,
We are playing a show on January 14th at Nick and Eddie and we would love for you to come on out for some Rock and Roll! I don’t know a ton of details at this moment. I know we are headlining, so we will play later than the other bands. We will have a flyer soon, but until then please enjoy this pro picture I took of Ian where I made him pose like he is on the cover of Modern Drummer.

"Drumming is all about drums" -Ian Prince
